The Spartus Spitfire Hybrid is the flat-top hybrid of the Spitfire family: a 16mm Generation 4 Turbo Foam core and PermaGritNano grit face, 7.75 oz with a 109 swing weight and 6.6 twist weight, in a white colourway Spartus keeps for the Hybrid. It sits between the Elongated's reach and the Standard's forgiveness, for intermediate and advanced players who want power and lasting spin.

Overview

The Spartus Spitfire Hybrid is the flat-top hybrid of the Spitfire family: the same 16mm Generation 4 Turbo Foam core and PermaGritNano surface as the Elongated and the Standard, in a shape that sits between the two. It comes in a white edge guard and white grip, a colourway Spartus keeps for the Hybrid alone, and it is on pre-order now for late November.

How it plays

On paper the Hybrid splits the family down the middle. Spartus puts it at 7.75 oz with a 109 swing weight and a 6.6 twist weight. Against the Spitfire Elongated (116 swing weight, 6.2 twist weight) it swings lighter and twists less on an off-centre hit, so it is quicker in a hands battle and steadier at the kitchen. Against the Spitfire Standard (107 and 7.4) you give up a little forgiveness for more reach. The flat top keeps more face up where you meet the ball on a volley or a block.

The core and face are the ones the Spitfire made its name on. Pickleball Effect measured the Elongated at 2,132 RPM of spin, in the 98th percentile of everything they have tested, and its PermaGritNano surface kept 94 to 97 per cent of its roughness through their durability test. Pickleball Effect describes a soft, slightly hollow feel, gentler than most foam power paddles, with mid-to-high power. Those numbers are for the Elongated; the Hybrid uses the same core and surface.

Nobody in Australia has hit the Hybrid yet, us included. When ours land, we will play them and add what we find to this page.

Pre-order

Spartus ships the first Hybrid run in the second half of November, and we expect our stock in Sydney in late November. Reserve yours with a $100 deposit; we only charge the rest when your paddle is ready to ship, and pre-orders go out in the order they were placed. Changed your mind? You can cancel any time before it ships and we will refund everything you have paid, deposit included.

About Spartus

Spartus was founded by Josh Kim, who brought a background in engineering, law, finance and business to building paddles. He started the company in California and now plays out of Denver. Spartus develops its own cores, layups and surfaces rather than buying them off the shelf, and its line is simple: "Highest performance. Best value. No compromise between them." Spartus says Pickleball Pursuit named the Spitfire its 2026 Paddle of the Year.
