JOOLA Pickleball Paddles

Every JOOLA pickleball paddle we stock in Australia, held here in Sydney and dispatched domestically in 1 to 3 days rather than sent from the United States over two or three weeks. JOOLA has been building table tennis equipment since 1952 and came into pickleball in 2022, and that heritage shows in how the range is put together: a small number of shapes, revised generation by generation, instead of a new silhouette every season. This page covers how the range splits, which shape suits which game, and the generation naming that trips people up when they cross-check us against overseas sites.

The range splits two ways: Pro V and Pro IV

Almost every JOOLA decision comes down to picking a line, then picking a shape inside it.

Pro V is the current line: the Perseus, Hyperion, Scorpeus, Kosmos and Agassi, all 16mm. The headline change over the previous line is the KineticFrame throat, which damps the vibration that reaches your hand on an off-centre hit. It does not make the paddle more powerful. It makes a mis-hit feel less like a mis-hit, which matters more than it sounds when you are defending a firefight at the kitchen.

Pro IV is the previous line, and it is still a serious paddle. You get the same shape family and recognisably the same JOOLA feel for meaningfully less money. If you are stepping into the brand for the first time, the Scorpeus Pro IV 16mm and the 14mm are the honest starting point, and nobody at your club will be able to tell from the other end of the court.

Pick by shape, not by price

This is the part most buyers get backwards. The shape of the head changes how the paddle plays far more than the badge on it does.

• Elongated (Perseus, Hyperion, Agassi). A longer, narrower head. You get reach at the baseline and leverage on the drive, and the extra length pushes weight away from your hand, so the swing weight climbs. Great for a counter-punching singles game or a two-handed backhand. Less forgiving: the sweet spot sits higher up the face and there is less of it.
• Widebody (Scorpeus). A shorter, wider head. The sweet spot is the largest in the range and the twist weight is higher, which means the face stays square when you catch the ball off-centre. This is the kitchen-line doubles paddle, and it is the one we hand to most players who tell us they lose points on hands battles.
• Hybrid (Kosmos). Splits the difference: some of the reach, most of the forgiveness. If you genuinely cannot choose, this is where to land.

Ben Johns competes with the elongated Perseus Pro V. That is worth knowing and worth ignoring: he is playing a different sport to the rest of us, and the paddle that suits his game is not automatically the paddle that suits a Saturday morning four.

Core thickness: 14mm or 16mm

Where both are offered, the thicker core is the safer buy. A 16mm core holds the ball on the face a fraction longer, which gives you more control on resets and third-shot drops and a softer, quieter feel. A 14mm core is stiffer and more direct, so drives come off faster and hands are quicker, at the cost of touch and forgiveness. Most club players are better served by 16mm. Take 14mm if you already know you win points with pace and you are confident finding the middle of the face.

On generations, so you are not caught out

JOOLA markets the Pro V as Gen 5 and the Pro IV as Gen 4. Independent testers generally classify both as Gen 3 construction. Both are counting real things, and neither is being dishonest: JOOLA is numbering its own product generations, the testers are numbering manufacturing eras across the whole category. The practical difference between the two lines is the KineticFrame throat, not a leap in materials. If a site tells you the Pro V is a different class of paddle to the Pro IV, that is marketing rather than construction.

Buying JOOLA in Australia

Common questions

Is the Pro V worth it over the Pro IV? If you play multiple times a week and you notice feedback through the handle, yes. If you play once a week and you are still working on your reset, put the difference towards court time and buy the Pro IV.

Which JOOLA is best for a beginner? Honestly, none of them. JOOLA sits at the pro end and the elongated shapes in particular punish an off-centre hit. Start on our starter paddles and come back to this page in a season.

Do I need a cover? A raw carbon face loses grit to keys, zips and boot floors faster than it does to play. The JOOLA neoprene cover is the cheap insurance, and there are more options in paddle accessories.
