Selkirk Paddles
American heritage, and a paddle you can tune
Selkirk is one of the oldest names in pickleball, family-run out of Idaho and making paddles since well before the category got crowded. We carry two Selkirk lines: the Omni, which is the mainstream performance paddle, and the LABS Boomstik, which is the experimental end of what Selkirk builds. If you came looking for LUXX or Power Air, we do not stock them, and we would rather say so on this page than have you work through the whole catalogue to find out.
The Omni
Two shapes, both 16mm. The Omni Elongated gives you reach at the baseline and plough-through on the drive. The Omni Widebody trades that reach for a wider, more forgiving face and a higher twist weight, which is what keeps the face square when you catch a ball off-centre in a hands battle.
Both run a foam core under a gritty carbon face. The feature that separates them from most paddles at this level is the adjustable weight system: you can shift mass to make the paddle more head-heavy for power and plough-through, or pull it back towards the handle for quicker hands at the kitchen. Most players never touch the weighting on a paddle because most paddles do not let them. If you have ever added lead tape to tune a paddle, this is that idea built in and reversible.
The LABS Boomstik
Selkirk LABS is where Selkirk puts the designs that do not fit the normal range, and the Boomstik is the clearest example: a long, thin, high-swing-weight elongated paddle aimed squarely at players who win points with pace and reach. We carry the Boomstik Elongated and the USA version.
Be clear-eyed about it. A high swing weight gives you free pace and makes a heavy ball, and it also makes the paddle slower to bring back in a firefight and more punishing when your timing is late. This is not a first paddle, and it is not a paddle to buy because it looks fast. It suits a singles player or a driver who already knows they want more mass out at the tip.
Elongated or widebody
The same rule applies here as everywhere. Elongated buys reach and leverage and costs you forgiveness, because the sweet spot is smaller and sits higher on the face. Widebody buys forgiveness and quicker hands and costs you reach. If your points are decided at the kitchen line in doubles, take the widebody. If you drive from the baseline or play singles, take the elongated.
The honest note on money
Selkirk sits at the upper end of what we stock, and there are paddles on our wall that play in the same power-and-spin territory for less, including the RPM Q2. Buy a Selkirk because you want the Omni's tuning system or because you want the Boomstik specifically, not because a higher price implies a better paddle. It does not, and we would rather you spent the difference on court time. Common questions
Omni or Boomstik? Omni for almost everybody. Boomstik if you specifically want a high swing weight and you have the hands to carry it.
Does the adjustable weighting really change anything? Yes, and more than most people expect. A few grams at the tip is the difference between a paddle that feels quick and one that feels like it does the work for you.
Do you stock Selkirk balls? The Selkirk Pro S1 and SLK Hybrid sit with the rest of our pickleball balls.
