How it works

The height adjusts from 75cm to 113cm, so you can drop it low to rehearse kitchen dinks and third-shot drops, or run it up for drives and resets. The rubber cup cradles the ball and holds it steady between swings, and the weighted iron tripod keeps everything planted through contact. Fold the legs down and it packs away flat.

The point of a stand is that it removes the feed. A partner's toss is never quite the same twice, so every rep changes two things at once: where the ball is, and what you did about it. Take the feed out and one variable is left, your swing. That makes a stand worth more for shape work (grip, contact point, paddle face at the moment of strike) than for anything needing a moving ball.

Height is set by a thumbscrew collar on the centre tube, so you can move between drills without tools. At the bottom of its range the cup sits about where a ball is when you take a dink out of the air at the kitchen line. Wound up to 113cm it is nearer shoulder height, the zone for a put-away or a punch volley. The cup is rubber rather than metal, so the shots you clip meet something soft.

The tripod folds like a camera stand, and at 1.2kg it travels to the court as easily as it stays in the garage.
