The Crystal Blue surface uses a crystal-media process that holds its grit far longer than regular carbon fibre, so the spin performance you buy is the spin performance you keep.

How it plays

The extended handle changes less than you might think, and that is the point. You keep everything that makes the J2CR platform work: the wide 7.8-inch Aero Hybrid Plus face, the Core Reactor foam construction with Honolulu's PowerFlex and Control Joint technologies, and a twist weight of 7.0 that most paddles in this class cannot touch. What the extra half inch of handle buys you is room. A two-handed backhand gets a proper second grip instead of a cramped one, and single-handers who choke down for leverage on serves and drives get a longer lever to work with.

The face deserves its own sentence. Honolulu's Blue Grit surface has tested at roughly 2,091 RPM of spin, which they note is about 99.5 percent of the legal ceiling, and the Crystal Blue process interlocks the crystal media mechanically so the texture is engineered to hold rather than wear smooth. Those figures are the maker's testing, not ours, but they are the right numbers to be chasing: grit that lasts is worth more than grit that starts loud and fades. If you do not need the longer handle, the regular-handle J2CR is the same paddle with a 5.5-inch grip, and if you want more reach and swing-arc power on the same face technology, look at the elongated J6CR. UPA-A approved for tournament play.
