Overview
An overgrip is the cheapest upgrade in pickleball and the one most players leave far too long. This is the one we wrap our own paddles in: tacky enough to hold through a long session, absorbent enough to still hold when your hands go, and thin enough that it does not change the handle size you have already got used to.
How it plays
FlexTac is a polyurethane grip with a fine textured surface rather than a smooth one, and the texture is what does the work. It gives you something to hold when the sweat starts, and it keeps its tack through a full session instead of going slick twenty minutes in. Australian summer pickleball is a sweaty-hands problem more than a technique problem, and a tacky overgrip solves more of it than most people expect.
At 0.7mm it builds the handle slightly without turning a 4 1/4 into something you have to relearn. Wrap it with a small overlap, finish below the butt cap, and trim. If you want a thicker handle, run two.
Overgrip or replacement grip?
A replacement grip is the thick cushioned layer that comes fitted to the paddle from the factory. An overgrip goes over the top of it, is thinner, and is meant to be consumed and replaced. You do not remove the original grip to fit one. Most club players get four to six sessions out of an overgrip before the tack fades, so if you play twice a week, buy the pack rather than the single.
