Franklin Dagger 2-Player Pickleball Paddle Set with 4 X-40 Balls

Two paddles, four balls, one box. The Franklin Dagger set is the low-cost way to get two people onto a pickleball court this weekend without settling for toy-shop gear. The paddles and the balls are both USA Pickleball approved, so the same kit is legal at a club social or a local tournament once the game gets its hooks into you.

How it plays

The Dagger is a fibreglass paddle, and fibreglass is the forgiving choice for a beginner. The face has a little give, so the ball comes off with easy pop even on a short, slow swing, and the polypropylene honeycomb core takes the sting out of off-centre hits. At 7.2 to 7.6 oz (about 204 to 215 g) it is light enough to swing all afternoon, and the 5.1 in cushioned handle leaves room for a second hand on the backhand if you are coming across from tennis. A protective edge guard runs right around the head, which matters in a first set: the early weeks involve a lot of scraping balls off the court.

What it is not: a raw carbon spin paddle. If you already play twice a week you will outgrow the Dagger inside a season, and our beginner pickleball paddles or the Pickld Starter Set will serve you longer. The balls

The four balls are Franklin X-40 outdoor pickleballs, the official ball of the US Open Pickleball Championships: 40 machine-drilled holes, 74 mm across, 26 g. They are the same X-40s we sell on their own in our pickleball balls range, not a softer practice ball added to fill the box.
